Religious Education

COME AND SEE

As part the Nottingham diocese, St Clare's school teaches RE through the Come and See programme. This is a Catholic Primary Religious Education programme for Foundation, Key stage 1 and Key stage 2 and was published in July 2012. The programme has been written by  group of experienced diocesan advisors and was trialled initially in schools in England and Wales. The programme is based on the theological foundations of the Second Vatican Council, the Catholic Catechism and the revised RE curriculum directory and includes the Catholic  Attainment levels.

There are 3 small 4 week topics per term. In the Autumn term, Judaism is taught and another faith in a subsequent term ranging from Hinduism, Islam and Sikhism. Each topic follows the format of Explore, Reveal and Respond. Media Clips, posters, art work are used to explore scripture and the church. The topics in Come and See follow the Liturgical cycle of the Church year.

Collective Worship

St Clare's has an active Collective worship programme. Prayer is at the heart of the school day, with morning, lunch prayers said or sung and at the end of the day. Classes lead whole school liturgies every Wednesday, to which families are invited and will do daily liturgies or meditation in their classrooms, when the whole school does not meet. Singing collective worship assemblies are undertaken fortnightly. The school has very close parish links to St Wilfrid of York Church in Coalville and attend, lead and participate in masses frequently every term. The Parish priest also visits the school to have masses, to which the parishioners are invited. The school chaplaincy team helps to organise liturgies and reviews masses and liturgies. In Advent and Lent, the chaplaincy team leads before school Advent reflections and the Lent stations of the cross. Also the chaplaincy team encourages the children to join them for meditation club and saying the rosary in the months of October and May.

Catholic Life of the School

The catholic life of the school can be seen in every classroom and member of the St Clare's community.

St Clare's school plays a very active part in the local, wider and international Community. All of the children are grouped into 4 houses: the families based upon the Saints. Each house chooses a charity to support for the year. As a whole school, Cafod is supported at least once a year and over the last few years, the children have supported refugees, local shelters and food banks in harvest, water aid projects, The Marie Curie and the British Legion Poppy appeal. The school has links to the Justice and Peace group at St Wilfrid's Church in Coalville and together highlight and support people and children in need locally and abroad. The school choir sings in the local care homes. We aim to live out the motto of St Clare's and the Poor sisters on our school badge: of being the helping hands to others.

The Ten Ten theatre group visit the school bi annually to lead the children on their RE topics. We aim to enable pupils to see prayer as a companion in their faith journey and although sacramental preparation for Reconciliation and the Eucharist takes place in the Parish of St Wilfrid, give the children many opportunities to partake of the Eucharist and in Advent and Lent: Reconciliation.
